The 5 Pillars
Leveraging the framework of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), the Rural Renaissance Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that sparks cultural, educational, and economic development through creative and entrepreneurial investment in rural communities with programming rooted in the following 5 Pillars:
In the 21st century, technology is everywhere. It’s in our homes, businesses, even our cars. As the first pillar, technology will provide the foundation for creation and expansion. Connections to the worldwide cloud and big data systems enable businesses of all sizes to operate in rural communities. Tech offices, co-working and meeting spaces will support educational opportunities for both youth and adults in coding and other high tech fields.
Many rural communities simply don’t have access to the artistic and cultural opportunities offered in bigger cities, meaning creative people often must live in urban areas to work. But big cities are visually, audibly, and mentally loud and distracting. An art space will be a place for creative minds to explore and create, with a gallery and performance venue to showcase a range of works from local and visiting artists, musicians, dance choreographers, and more.
Rural economies often depend on agriculture, including family farms and the people who work with them. However, the crops produced are typically sent to other states or even overseas before reaching grocery aisles. We aim to use blockchain technology to create direct connections between farmers and consumers, providing greater economic opportunities in the rural communities where food is produced. People will know exactly where the food on their plate was grown and how to support local businesses.
Health & Wellness
Improved access to medical services is crucial for health in rural areas. We will implement cleverly designed, technology-enhanced programs for preventive care and wellness. Education and activities such as yoga, cooking classes, and outdoor recreation will support healthy lifestyles.
We will support the development of technologies and analytics to enhance broadband internet usage in rural areas. Advance municipal water systems, septic systems and rural / agricultural water conservation practices. Develop sustainable energy sources to drive a cleaner future.
